Relander Collection

    The Relander Collection at Yakima Central Library holds many unique local history resources. These early photographs, maps, letters and newspapers name names and tell stories about those who first populated the Yakima Valley and about the communities they built. Although these materials cannot be checked out, you may schedule an appointment to browse the collection by calling (509) 575-3429.

    Yakima Valley Historical Society

    The Yakima Valley Museum is the home of the Yakima Valley Historical Society. The Museum is located at 2105 Tieton Drive in Yakima. The Museum Library & Archives contain city directories, historic photographs and maps, school yearbooks, and hard copy early Yakima Valley Newspapers. It is a rich repository of community history.

    Yakima Valley Genealogical Library

    The Yakima Valley Genealogical Society’s library is located on West Washington at 1901 S 12th Avenue in Union Gap. They offer specialized genealogy resources and a community of skilled researchers.

    The Yakima County Auditor’s Office is dedicated to providing quality service in:

    • Ancestry Library Edition
      Genealogical database that includes federal and state census, church, military, court, land, probate, immigration, and vital records. Includes the Social Security Administration Death Index Master File containing information on millions of deceased individuals with United States social security numbers whose deaths were reported to the Social Security Administration. (This database is only available inside the library)
    • Washington State Digital Archives
      The Washington State Digital Archives provides access to online collections of historical value. In some cases you will be able to view a digital copy of selected records. Records that have not been digitized can be ordered online
