Library History
In 1906, The Wapato Public Library began in the Hub Mercantile Company. It was moved into a former bank building in downtown Wapato in 1999, annexing to Yakima Valley Regional Library in 2000.
Driving directions
From I-82 Southbound:
- From Yakima, drive south on I-82 about 10 miles to Exit #44, Wapato.
- At the top of the ramp, turn right onto Donald/Wapato Road.
- Follow Donald/Wapato Road west into Wapato. It becomes Wapato Avenue after approximately 2 miles.
- Turn left at the second full-stop traffic light onto East 3rd Street.
- Proceed on East 3rd one block.
- The library is on the right.
From I-82 Northbound:
- From the lower valley, drive north to Exit #44, Wapato.
- At the top of the ramp, turn left onto Donald/Wapato Road.
- Follow Donald/Wapato Road west into Wapato. It becomes Wapato Avenue after approximately 2 miles.
- Turn left at the second full-stop traffic light onto East 3rd Street.
- Proceed on East 3rd one block.
- The library is on the right.
From Highway 97 Southbound:
- Wapato is about 10 miles from Yakima off Highway 97.
- Turn left at the first Wapato light, West First Street.
- Continue east on West First to the traffic light at Wapato Avenue.
- Turn right on Wapato Avenue.
- Continue two block south on Wapato Avenue to the traffic light at East 3rd Street.
- Turn left onto East 3rd Street.
- The library is on the right.
From Highway 97 Northbound:
- Turn right into Wapato at the first Wapato traffic light, South Camas/South Wapato.
- Continue north on South Camas Street to East 3rd Street, about ½ mile.
- Turn left on East 3rd Street.
- The library is one block down on the left.
Parking:
Parking for customers is in a large lot west of the building.
