Summer Reading Program

    Are you ready to brighten your summer with good books?  From June 1 to July 31, babies, kids, teens, and adults are invited to embark on Beanstack reading challenges. Join us to earn rewards for reaching summer reading goals and get entered to win a variety of awesome prizes!

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

    Challenge Goals

    Log your reading at least once a week to be entered into our weekly prize drawings!

      • Read at least 20 minutes during the week to automatically be entered — no tickets needed.
      • Keep logging throughout the summer to increase your chances of winning weekly prizes!

    Read 600 minutes (10 hours) between June 1 – July 31 to complete the Summer Reading Challenge.

        • You can continue logging even after reaching 10 hours! Every minute helps our community goal.
        • Help Yakima Valley Libraries reach 1.5 million minutes read this summer!

    Visit your library and join in on fun activities with staff throughout the summer.

      • Take part in Digby’s Dare! Each week, Digby challenges you to complete a special activity.
      • After completing the activity, staff will give you that week’s special code.
      • Enter the code into Beanstack to unlock an activity badge.
      • Each weekly activity badge earned counts as an entry into a drawing for a $20 Safeway gift card!

    New Digby’s Dare codes are released every week, so be sure to check back often.

    Weekly Drawings (2 Ways to Win!)

    Reading Badges

    There are nine (9) weeks of Summer Reading prize drawings!

    • Each week, one winner will be selected from each age group:
      • Littles: Ages 0–5
      • Children: Ages 6–12
      • Teens: Ages 13–17
      • Adults: Ages 18+
    • Weekly reading prize drawings run Monday through Sunday.
    • Want to participate in a different age group? You can update your age group in Beanstack or ask library staff for help.

    Activity Badges

    Available each week during Summer Reading.

    • Each activity badge is only available during its designated week.
    • Example: If it is Week 6 and you try entering the code from Week 2, the Week 2 badge will no longer unlock.
    • Every activity badge earned counts as an entry into a weekly drawing for a $20 gift card!
    • One activity badge winner is selected each week across all age groups.
    • Weekly drawings take place the Monday following each completed week.
    • Winners will be announced on social media every Wednesday.
