    Yakima Valley Libraries is committed to taking care of our valued staff. We offer an environment that promotes a healthy atmosphere and a generous benefits package.

     

    Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

    Our health insurance plans are paid by Yakima Valley Libraries for all employees working thirty-two (32) or more hours per week. Employees may also purchase benefits for dependents and domestic partners.

     

    Retirement Savings

    Employees working twenty (20) hours per week or more are automatically enrolled in the Washington State Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Both YVL and employees contribute toward PERS retirement benefits.

     

    457 Deferred Compensation Plan

    Employees working twenty (20) hours per week or more are eligible to participate in the voluntary tax-deferred compensation plan. You can supplement any other retirement benefits you may have by setting aside pre-tax dollars in this retirement savings account. Currently, there are over thirty (30) investment funds and fund portfolios to choose from.

     

    Life, Long Term Disability and Accidental Death Insurance

    All full-time employees qualify for the group term life insurance benefit equal to two (2) times their annual salary.

     

    Employee Assistance Program

    The employer-sponsored program is a confidential counseling assessment and referral service. The EAP offers employees and their families personal and professional counseling, legal and financial consultation services, and more.

     

    Paid Time Off

    Accrual of vacation leave begins on the employee’s first day of employment, and accrual shall be in accordance with the following schedule:

    Regular full-time employees:

    • Regular part-time employees – twenty (20) but less than thirty-two (32) hours per week – will earn a pro rata share of vacation leave in the proportion that their regular work schedule bears to full-time employees.
    • Regular part-time – less than twenty (20) hours/week – employees, temporary employees, and substitutes do not earn vacation leave.
    • Exempt employees and IT Manager – Sixteen (16) hours per month or twenty-four (24) days annually.

    Full-time employees earn up to 8 hours of sick time per month. Regular part-time employees working (20) hours but less than thirty-two (32) hours per week receive pro-rated sick leave. Regular part-time less than twenty (20) hours per week, earn sick leave at a rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours worked. Yakima Valley Libraries also offers ten (10) paid holidays and two (2) floating holidays per year to eligible employees.

    Flexible and Daycare Spending Accounts

    Employees working thirty-two (32) hours or more can set aside a portion of their salary on a pre-tax basis to pay for up to $2,500 in family medical expenses and up to $5,000 in child care needs.
