Interlibrary Loan Request FAQs

    • Requested items not already in our collections where it has been determined they will not be purchased/added. YVL then seeks these items for the patron from other libraries in the United States.

    A title may be requested only once in a 12 month period.

    • Any YVL library card holder with up to date contact and address information whose account is in good standing with fees of less than $10.00. If you have a Digital Pass, a Provisional library card, or have started your library card registration online but have not come into the library yet to complete the process for a physical card, you will need to provide photo ID and address verification to library staff when you check out your interlibrary loan items.
    • Books (Those published within the last 2 years may be more difficult to obtain)
    • DVDs
    • Books on CD
    • Music CDs
    • Newspapers on microfilm
    • Photocopies of specific pages from journals and newspapers
    • Photocopies of specific information from
    • genealogy or other non-circulating materials
    • Theses and dissertations
    • Government documents
    • Reports and conference proceedings
    • Music scores
    • Textbooks may be available but regularly have a borrowing fee which would be charged to the patron.
    • Digital materials
    • Computer Software
    • Board games
    • Video games
    • Library card holders may have a total of 5 Purchase and/or Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests at one time. Digital Pass holders or Provisional card holders may have 2 requests but must provide ID and proof of address to library staff before checkout.
      There is a limit of 2 at a time for titles within a TV or book series since we cannot guarantee what order they will arrive in.
    • Anywhere from 2 – 4 weeks, depending upon the number of libraries that own the item and its availability. Obscure items may take longer.

    • YVL does not charge a fee for this service but some libraries do.
    • If the lending library does charge a fee, we would contact you for agreement before we borrowed that item for you.
    • Fees are payable at the time of checkout.
    • You will receive notification based on how you set up the contact information on your library account. (Please be aware, your contact information and preferences must be up to date in order to receive your alerts.)
    • Pick up items at the library you chose on the request form.
    • The checkout period for ILL items is determined by the lending library.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Because loan periods do vary it is important to pick up ILL items as soon as you are notified..
